Annual Prevention Summit
The Annual Prevention Summit is hosted by CADY each spring to recognize community accomplishments in preventing and reducing youth alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, spotlight youth development initiatives, and express appreciation to coalition partners. Past Summit presenters have included: Dr. Robert Brooks and Dover Youth to Youth.
It is at the Summit that the Youth Leadership, Community Partner, and John W. True Awards are presented.
John W. True Award presented at Regional Prevention Summit
At its Annual Prevention Summit on June 4, 2009, Communities for Alcohol- and Drug-‐free Youth (CADY) presented the John W. True Award for Excellence in Commitment to Youth.
This year’s recipient, Guy D. Ford was recognized as a highly valued member of the CADY volunteer team and a premiere Partner in Prevention. His commitment to the wellness of area youth and families is seen in the myriad ways he serves his community. This “Jack of All Trades” has served for three years with the CADY Restorative Justice Program, as a member of the Restorative Justice Advisory Council, and on numerous community panels that ensure accountability to the victims of juvenile crime, as well as youth re-‐engagement with their community. He has driven vans and chaperoned youth recreational trips, mentored youth, serves as a board member on the Bridges to Prevention oversight committee, and most recently facilitated the strategic planning process with the CADY board of directors. This “do whatever it takes kind of guy,” has even shoveled snow off the CADY office roof! His effectiveness is driven by a highly-developed ability to focus on solutions not problems. The generosity and caring of Guy Ford illustrates the POWER OF ONE, to make a big difference in the lives of so many.
The inscription on the award presented reads: The John W. True Award for Excellence in Commitment to Youth is presented to Guy D. Ford, in recognition and gratitude for his generous commitment of time, support, and partnership to CADY and the youth and communities they serve. “Being True to a Child is the Best Prevention.”
The award is presented annually by CADY in honor of John W. True, former board member and SAU #48 Superintendent of Schools, whose commitment to youth was an inspiration to many. Former award recipients include: Bruce Parsons, Lisa Mure, Anthony Raymond and Marie Ross.

The conference features a wide variety of interactive breakout sessions ranging from mask making, team building, physical fitness activities, art, dance, communication skills, and information and awareness on teen and family issues.
The KAPER Conference is sponsored by SAU 4 – Newfound Area School District, Newfound Memorial Middle School and CADY.
